ABOUT THE BOOK

It Could Just Happen

In the midst of political turmoil, a terrorist plot to destroy the ‘Mother of all Parliaments’, brings into focus much greater problems than the differences between two cultures. The events that unfold gives us a narrative that might not be fiction – but the harsh reality of the future.

During the economic recession, in the early nineties, seven families decide to leave London to resettle in the Highlands of Scotland. Working together, they aim to create a self-sufficient community, that will provvide a good environment to raise their kids. Their story is told in the journals that Mo Stevenson writes until the story is cut short.

Two of the boys, David and Sayyid, form a close friendship. They have unrestricted freedom to roam the hills and canoe the rivers in search of adventure.

A murder that is revenged by a single act of extreme violence, separates them. Sayyid, is imprisoned, and is radicalised by Islamic extremists. Once released, he heads for the tribal areas of Pakistan. Meanwhile, David, enlists in the army, and is commissioned into the Parachute Regiment. Their paths diverge, but cross again in the inhospitable Helmand Province in Afghanistan. David picks up the story where his father left off.

Whilst the families create a harmonious existence in the Highlands of Scotland, the two young men seem to be inextricably joined by fate, in a complex dance of death. From Afghanistan to Syria and back to London.

The Houses of Parliament are the target, democracy the casualty. London will never be the same again unless this ultimate terrorist plot is foiled. A malign Iranian involvement in the plot brings the UK into direct confrontation.

A difficult Brexit is taking place and NATO seems to be falling apart as the EU are determined to produce their own defence force… but could all this produce a new democracy? A form without political parties or politicians.
